Catching up with Gavyn Thomas

Or "G.T"., "Gav", "The Boy", "Little Stinker", and affectionately, "Turd Burglar". Whatever comes out of our mouths at the time. Gavyn is going to be two and a half next month.  I look at him, and I don't see my baby boy anymore. I see a big kid that is ready to tackle life with every strength he has - granted he can wear his choo-choo boots while he does it.

These are just some of the things I absolutely love about my big boy: He listens. No really, it is amazing, he listens so well for a toddler. He give the best hugs and kisses. He is patient. He takes turns. He runs with his arms up and pumping like they fuel his legs. He's funny. So, so funny. He is quiet and soft spoken. He loves his sister. When Alli cries in the car, I hear him say "It otay Ella. Mama here. Gavyn here. It otay." If I go somewhere without him, he greets me by running to me and saying "Mama! You home!!". He greets his Daddy the same way. He is good to his friends. He says please and thank you. He encourages others. When I do something, he says "Horray Mama!". He is so, so very sweet and kind. He is also, at times, a testy little stink butt that makes me grit my teeth until my head hurts. I love that about him too :).

His biggest development lately has been his speech. I worried about it for the longest time, and now I don't know what I was worried about. Every day the things he says gets a little clearer. He puts more words together and has more conversations every hour it seems. He will now pick up a book and "read" it from memory. I can understand him now, and that is to amazing. A few months ago, suddenly, I was talking with him instead of at him. He will also try new words all the time, whereas before he was scared to even attempt it in case he should fail. Although, that is how Gavyn is. He won't do something unless he is positive he can do it right.

A while back he got really into puzzles. He doesn't do them as often but they are still one of his favorite indoor activities. He is so good at them! He does jigsaw puzzles that most 3 and 4 year olds can't do. He gets so determined to do it himself. I just love when he wants to do things independently! Which is another development. "My turn" is one of the things he says the most - and that mostly means that HE must do it. Nobody else can do it, only him. Like buckling his car seat buckly, opening and closing the door, taking his towel off after bath - you name it, he must do it himself. So, I give him a lot of responsibility. He THRIVES on given a task. He loves it when I give him jobs he can do. He gets his own cart at the grocery store and is very serious about his goal. He has to help me with Alli when I need it. He is always looking for positive feedback, which he gets lots of! It amazes me how much he is capable of.

Gavyn knows all of his letters and for the most part the sound they all make. We are working on numbers and counting. His favorite TV show is Go Diego Go, and has been for over a year now. He enjoys other shows, like Nature and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, but he always comes back to Diego!

If you were to come to our house this summer, you'd probably find Gavyn outside, half naked, pushing his little mower, wheel barrow, or blowing bubbles. The kid is always outside when he can be. I'm so grateful that we live in a place that allows him to come and go as he pleases! We also still go to gymnastics and meet with friends. He has a little friend Mason that he gets along so well with. He talks about Mason when we aren't with him and asks me when we get to see him again. It is so fun to know that he has a friend like that! He has so many friends, but as we all know, there is always one or two that stick out.

Check out this handsome guy...

Griesbaum Family 4th of July!

This year we headed to Maywood for the 4th of July. We had such a fun time spending time with family, playing outside, and watching fireworks! This was the first year Gavyn really got to see fireworks. His first year he was only 5 months old and in bed, and last year in Colorado they were banned from being set off due to the dry conditions. He really enjoyed them though! He and Alli sat in Daddy's lap and watched them set off. Today when his gymnastics teacher asked him if he saw fireworks he said "YES!!" and then she asked him if they were loud and he said "Oh, um, noooo!!!". They sure seemed loud to me!

It was darker than this looks - my camera brightened it up

We also got to go over to Sumner to visit the kids' Great Grandma and Grandpa McCormick. I am so very grateful they have a chance to know these special people. I had my GG on my Mom's side until I was about 10, and I am so glad I had that time with her (although I sure would like to get to know her now!). We had a nice visit and got to spend some time on their farm!

You'd never know this woman just had heart surgery - what a strong person!

Allisyn has a cousin that was born in February, Andrin. While Alli is a few months older than him, they are about the same size! I'm glad they will have each other to grow up with. It is so fun to have a built-in friend like that at family functions. So naturally, we took lots of pictures of them together.

I know, adorable

After getting back to Maywood from Sumner on Friday, we had a fire in the backyard and a picnic. The kids' cousin Connor and Kolton were there with us.

Alli enjoyed sitting by the fire

Gavyn wanted to help with the fire, as usual
