These are just some of the things I absolutely love about my big boy: He listens. No really, it is amazing, he listens so well for a toddler. He give the best hugs and kisses. He is patient. He takes turns. He runs with his arms up and pumping like they fuel his legs. He's funny. So, so funny. He is quiet and soft spoken. He loves his sister. When Alli cries in the car, I hear him say "It otay Ella. Mama here. Gavyn here. It otay." If I go somewhere without him, he greets me by running to me and saying "Mama! You home!!". He greets his Daddy the same way. He is good to his friends. He says please and thank you. He encourages others. When I do something, he says "Horray Mama!". He is so, so very sweet and kind. He is also, at times, a testy little stink butt that makes me grit my teeth until my head hurts. I love that about him too :).
His biggest development lately has been his speech. I worried about it for the longest time, and now I don't know what I was worried about. Every day the things he says gets a little clearer. He puts more words together and has more conversations every hour it seems. He will now pick up a book and "read" it from memory. I can understand him now, and that is to amazing. A few months ago, suddenly, I was talking with him instead of at him. He will also try new words all the time, whereas before he was scared to even attempt it in case he should fail. Although, that is how Gavyn is. He won't do something unless he is positive he can do it right.
A while back he got really into puzzles. He doesn't do them as often but they are still one of his favorite indoor activities. He is so good at them! He does jigsaw puzzles that most 3 and 4 year olds can't do. He gets so determined to do it himself. I just love when he wants to do things independently! Which is another development. "My turn" is one of the things he says the most - and that mostly means that HE must do it. Nobody else can do it, only him. Like buckling his car seat buckly, opening and closing the door, taking his towel off after bath - you name it, he must do it himself. So, I give him a lot of responsibility. He THRIVES on given a task. He loves it when I give him jobs he can do. He gets his own cart at the grocery store and is very serious about his goal. He has to help me with Alli when I need it. He is always looking for positive feedback, which he gets lots of! It amazes me how much he is capable of.
Gavyn knows all of his letters and for the most part the sound they all make. We are working on numbers and counting. His favorite TV show is Go Diego Go, and has been for over a year now. He enjoys other shows, like Nature and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, but he always comes back to Diego!
If you were to come to our house this summer, you'd probably find Gavyn outside, half naked, pushing his little mower, wheel barrow, or blowing bubbles. The kid is always outside when he can be. I'm so grateful that we live in a place that allows him to come and go as he pleases! We also still go to gymnastics and meet with friends. He has a little friend Mason that he gets along so well with. He talks about Mason when we aren't with him and asks me when we get to see him again. It is so fun to know that he has a friend like that! He has so many friends, but as we all know, there is always one or two that stick out.
