Creativity time

When you are a toddler, there are no such things as "lazy days". Yesterday Gavyn slept in until 7:30 and it was amazing. Usually he is up between 6 and 6:30. He drags me out of bed and leads me to the refrigerator where we retrieve his milk. We then sit in the recliner together to watch Curious George, or whatever happens to be on PBS at the time. Gavyn is a big fan of Super Why - a show where kids go into stories and read to solve problems. I like it because it is teaching Gavyn his letters. I try to do the same but it isn't as much fun as having Wyatt on the show go through the super letters. They will spell a word and Gavyn will say all the letter sounds with them. I can't complain about that right?

Anyway, John leaves for work just before 8, and after saying goodbye to him we have a good hour/hour and a half to kill before either gymnastics class or library time or a meetup activity. So this is when we get creative! I try to find something new, fun, and educational for Gavyn to do to wake up his senses and get him thinking. Some days we just color, or he helps Mama clean by sweeping, wiping things off, etc. Most days though, we have a real activity. Today we did a sensory activity with flour. I put some flour on a cookie sheet and just let Gavyn go at it. He first tried to eat it. After discovering it did not taste so good, he started to make designs in the flour with his fingers and hands. After we drew some letters and shapes, we got out some animals and vehicles to see what happens when we put them in the flour and play with them. Then, naturally, Gavyn discovered he could blow on the flour and make a big cloud of the stuff, followed by learning that it makes him cough! He also thought it might make a nice shampoo, but after it didn't work for him he settled for giving his little elephant a shower in it. Let's not forget the clean-up too!

Finger painting is one of our favorite activities. We get to blend colors, use different materials like sponges and string to make designs, and get messy! I have many masterpieces adorning our wall in the kitchen. Some other activities we do include science experiments with gravity (rolling balls/cars through a tube), beading on fuzzy wire, finding leaves at the park, and playing different musical instruments. You get the idea. The evenings are much more relaxing - we read books, go for a walk, and play with Dada. We just have so much fun.

Serious business at first

Time to get wild at the end!
